Cattery Visits

We are a semi-closed Cattery. In this day and age, inviting people into your home can be quite dangerous. We take the safety of our Maine Coons, and family very seriously. Therefore, we limit visits as much as possible for several reasons...

1. When you ask to come visit our "cattery" you are asking to visit our home where our children live.  Visitors are pretty invasive in our daily life and strangers in the house can be stressful.

2. There are many anti-breeder and animal rights activists out there who may want to cause harm to our breeding program, as well as people who may just want to know what we have in our home to come back later.

3. Young kittens are extremely vulnerable to

airborne diseases and stress.

For these reasons we only allow visits for those who have reserved one of our current kittens. Visits will not be allowed until kittens are 8 weeks old and have had their first set of vaccines. Also, children under 10 years old will not be allowed to handle the kittens if they accompany you on your visit. Again, this is for the healthy and safety of all of our cats and kittens as our cattery is not a petting zoo.

We do not provide allergy visits, as each cat/kitten has their own level of dander and you may be allergic to one cat her another.

*If you want to see the kittens in person because you are not comfortable reserving a kitten you have not seen in person, please email us.

Under certain circumstances we will sell kittens with breeding rights. Click here for information.

Occasionally retired kings and queens are available for adoption. They will be able to leave our cattery after they have been spayed and fully recovered from surgery. Their health contract may be different than the copies shown below for our kittens. You can click here to see if we have any retired kings or queens available, or if we will be retiring one soon.

The Process

To get a kitten the first thing everyone must do is fill out the Kitten Application. Once your Kitten Application has been approved, you will then have two options. Option one is to join our Waitlist. Option two is to wait for a litter to be born and then reserve one of the available kittens at that point.

Kittens can be reserved when they are 6-8 weeks of age. To reserve a kitten you will be required to pay the reservation fee. At that time the Sales Contract must be signed.

Our Waitlist

We do have a growing Waitlist for kittens in our Cattery. Those on our Waitlist always get the chance to reserve their kitten first, in the order they joined the Waitlist. If you would like a kitten from our Cattery, we strongly encourage you to join our Waitlist. You can click here to get a general idea of how many people are on our waitlist and how long it will take to get your kitten.

Because we are very committed and stay in close contact with those in the New Mercies Maine Coon Family, we want to be sure that we are working with people who are just as committed as we are. So for that reason we charge a $500 fee to join our Waitlist. That $500 fee is non-refundable, but does go towards the total purchase price of the kitten. We also have a Waitlist Agreement that both parties sign at the time the Waitlist fee is paid.

When you join our Waitlist we notify you when we plan to have our next breedings, when mating is taking place, when we have a confirmed pregnancy, and then of course when the kittens are born. At the time of joining the Waitlist, you also have the option to pick which Queen your kitten comes from, as we all the gender, color and pattern your kitten has. We do ask that you be understanding though and realize that we have no control over the kittens that are produced. Being flexible is your best chance to get your kitten as soon as possible. But we also understand that people sometimes have their heart set on a very certain gender, color and pattern. So we do allow you to "pass" on a litter and wait for the next litter if your ideal kitten is not produced or available. In that case your name will remain at the top of the Waitlist and you will be notified when the next litter is on the way.

When the kittens have been born you will have the chance to watch them grow and change over the first 6 weeks. Between 6-8 weeks old, those on our Waitlist can start reserving their kitten in the order they joined. Any available kittens after those on the Waitlist have reserved their kitten, will be opened up for other people to reserve.

If you are interested in a kitten from a litter that is born but younger than 4 weeks old, you may be able to place a deposit on the litter. When we know that we have more kittens than people on our waitlist, we will allow a deposit to be placed on the litter. This puts you on the bottom of the Waitlist for that new litter and ensures you are able to get one of those kittens (assuming nothing outside of our control happens). To place a deposit on a new litter, it is a $500 non-refundable fee that goes towards the total price of the kitten. We also have a Deposit Agreement that both parties will sign at the time payment is made.

Since the ultimate goal of breeding is to further the Maine Coon Breed, breeders get 1st pick of all kittens. Those on the Waitlist for a pet kitten will be able to pick their kitten after the breeders on our Breeding Waitlist have picked their kitten, regardless of your number on the Standard Waitlist. Breeders must join the Breeding Waitlist before the litter is born to get priority picking. Though Breeders get priority picking, they still can only pick in the order they joined the Breeding Waitlist.

After Reservation

Over the next 7 to 10 weeks (depending on when your kitten is reserved), you will receive pictures and videos of your kitten as he/she grows and develops. You can also watch our Facebook page for more information, pictures and videos. We will keep in close contact so you can find out how your kitten is developing and what his/her personality it like. You will also be able to ask any questions you have and receive individual help and recommendations on what you should have for your new kitten.

At 13 weeks of age, the remaining purchase price of the kitten must be paid and the Kitten Care Agreement and Health Contract must be signed. All contracts are easily signed electronically. If you would like to see our contracts, please click here.

At 14 weeks of age, provided your kitten has a clean bill of health from our veterinarian, your kitten will be able to leave our Cattery. Again, those who wish to pick up their kitten in person are more than welcome to do so. Kittens who are flying are not able to leave the Cattery until they are 14 weeks and 5 days old. This is to hopefully give us a little buffer to ensure they are healthy. All travel is arranged well in advance weather they are flying to you with one of our pet nannies, or with you.

We hope these stages make getting your new kitten smooth and as painless as possible for all involved. If you have any questions, please see the links below, or feel free to visit our Contact Us page.

*We accept cash, money orders or credit/debit cards.
